The company said it expects to take a pre-tax impairment charge of as much as $160 million in the quarter that just ended Jan. 31 in disposing of its land portfolio, which largely buys and subdivides vast parcels, develops land and sells off home sites to builders.

Procter & Gamble to shed 1,600 jobs, save $240 million
It’s the first time P&G has attached employment and cost-savings numbers to a restructuring initiative announced last fall, when it told analysts it will take pretax charge of up to $1 billion for a downsizing program that would include attrition and voluntary separation packages.

Gov. John emerged from a meeting room at Cincinnati’s National Underground Railroad Freedom Center to say a Denver-based energy company would invest about $500 million in heavy equipment to process natural gas drilled from eastern Ohio.
