Get ready for winter golf in Cleveland

The golf simulator business is brisk, according to The Wall Street Journal and there's one in Cleveland I'll likely check out during the winter (as long as no one else is around to check out my swing): It's in the Residences at Six Six Eight, K&D Group's new place in the Gateway District, and is called The Caddyshack Lounge. A college friend of mine, Dave Wiseman, is an assistant pro at Westwood Country Club in Williamsville, N.Y., outside of Buffalo. Clearly, he can't play much in the winter (though the sonuvagun has gone to Florida from time to time to cure that problem), and says the simulators offer helpful information about a golfer's swing. “They give you ball flight information, show you how your club position is at impact and swing speed and ball speed, all of which are important,” Dave said. He also said he uses them five to seven times per winter.
At the same time, though, the yardage can be off from time to time, he said. I'm looking forward to trying Caddyshack out, though I'm not looking forward to winter.

From a reader who preferred not to be named: “Forcing season ticket holders to buy preseason games, at full ticket price, (they used to be call exhibition games) — that was the straw that broke the camel's back when I gave up my season tickets.”
From Rick Sippola: “I have been a Browns season ticket holder for six years. Tomorrow night is the first preseason game I will be attending. I think the league should shorten preseason to two games and expand to 18 games as proposed by Roger Goodell. The players may object, but I think it would be better for the fans. The players also objected to the moves to 14- and 16-game seasons in years past. … The preseason does not have much meaning or value to the average fan, (but) I am looking forward to seeing Colt McCoy play Thursday night.”
