The state of Ohio has chosen a site in Cleveland’s Midtown area for a new regional psychiatric hospital.

The Ohio Department of Mental Health said in a news release that it will build the hospital at Euclid Avenue and East 59th Street.

"Moving forward with this project is very positive news,” said Sandra Stephenson, director of the mental health department, in a statement. "This consolidated facility will substantially benefit the department with long-term cost savings through efficiencies in maintenance and overhead.”

The state will pay $150,000 an acre for 14 acres that it considers "shovel-ready." Money for the hospital was included in the state capital spending plan approved in earlier budget cycles.

The new hospital will replace aging facilities at the MetroHealth campus on Cleveland’s West Side and in Northfield in Summit County.
