MetroHealth Medical Center has received a $1 million grant from the Kresge Foundation in Troy, Mich., to help support its Senior Health & Wellness Center in Old Brooklyn.

The foundation originally notified MetroHealth that it would receive the grant in 2007, but the county hospital first had to raise an additional $3 million.

The Senior Health & Wellness Center opened in October 2007 and provides primary and specialty care, skilled nursing, adult day care and hospice services. In the first five months of 2009, the center had nearly 5,200 primary care visits and more than 3,400 specialty care visits.
