Hyland Software has made an acquisition aimed at further strengthening its presence in the health care field.

The Westlake-based developer of OnBase document management software said it bought privately held Valco Data Systems, itself a provider of document management, document imaging, workflow and health information management software for health care providers. Hyland did not say what it paid for Valco, which is based in Salem, N.H.

"Health care is the single largest segment of our business, and also one of the fastest growing," said A.J. Hyland, president and CEO of Hyland Software. Mr. Hyland said the acquisition of Valco “strengthens our portfolio of solutions for health care providers, especially those that rely on systems from Meditech," which is a leading vendor of health care informatics.

Valco was founded in 1994 and provides software integration, consulting, support and training services to more than 300 hospitals, regional health information organizations and integrated delivery networks across North America. Hyland did not disclose Valco’s annual revenues nor its number of employees.
